What is data overage fee and how does it work?
When you activate a monthly plan with PhoneBox, your account will be subject to data overage fees if your usage exceeds the data included in your plan. Details of this policy are outlined on the activation page.
What Is a Data Overage Fee?
A data overage fee is the additional charge applied when you use more data than your plan allows within a billing cycle.
Example:
If you're on a $45/month plan with 7GB of data, and the data overage fee is $15/GB, using 9GB in a billing cycle means you have exceeded your limit by 2GB. You would be billed $30 plus applicable taxes for the overage.
Important: Please note that any data usage exceeding your plan allowance will be rounded up to the next full gigabyte. This means that even a small overage—such as 100kb, 0.01GB or 0.10GB—will be counted and billed as 1GB, resulting in a $15 charge plus applicable taxes.
Your plan will reset and restart with the full data amount at the beginning of your next billing cycle.
Monitoring Your Usage
You are responsible for tracking your data usage. Any overage fees incurred will be added to your account.
To check your usage quickly, you can send us a text with “MD” and you’ll receive an update.
You may also track your data usage directly on your phone. Here’s how:
(Insert phone-specific tracking instructions if needed)
Case Example:
Jack subscribed to the $45/month 7GB plan on February 10. He traveled from British Columbia to Ontario and used a total of 11GB during that cycle. That’s 4GB over his plan. With an overage fee of $15/GB:
4GB x $15 = $60 → with tax (12%) = $67.20 total overage charge.
