Why can't I receive text messages?



Requirements:


  • Most troubleshooting issues can be done by simply restarting your device (reboot) or taking the SIM card out and inserting it back into the device
  • Check whether there’s a signal on your device and make sure the SIM card is inserted properly


Without proper signal display on your device, sending out a text message can be an issue. Restart your device to make sure that the service is not working. Please confirm that your device is not locked, or having technicality issues due to manual settings.


Checking your connectivity through cellular data or WIFI is also important as for some of the devices required internet connection to send out text messages.


For devices such as iPhone, we recommend checking the text message settings by simply go to the settings, and scroll down to find Messages. For some Apple users customers it is necessary to disable the function of iMessage to avoid SMS issues.


We also suggest you to check if the phone number of the message receiver is not an international phone number and make sure the receiving also has no connectivity or signal issues.


Please note: This is a very rare issue. However, if you have come across of not being able to receive the text message, we strongly advise trying to turn off your WI-FI connections and turn on your mobile data instead.


We also recommend to restart your device as this would help refresh your line.


Case example:


Zoey called us and told us that her cell phone had strong signals but could not receive messages. However, she could send them to others. The Customer Support then reported to the number team to contact Rogers to refresh the line. However, Zoey still can’t receive messages from others.


The Customer Support sent a new SIM card to her. After changing to the new SIM card, Zoey can receive messages from her friends.
